NHL reaches decision on Sam Bennett's 'sucker punch' on Brad Marchand
There's been a hotly Contested debate in the hockey world today And that is whether or not Sam Bennett hit On Brad Marchand was a sucker pun or not, Either way It appears as though the NHL has made their decision regarding the incident. Some fans won't be happy as always the case.
According to David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period there will be no supplemental discipline for Sam Bennett in regards to his head that will likely sideline Marchand For at least the next couple of playoff games; take a look.
No supplementary discipline for Bennett's "punch" or Ryan's "stick tap"... both something the refs could/did deal with. All is fair in love and playoffs, it appears.
I don't know if Sam Bennett should be suspended, but as more video comes out, it's quite hard to deny that he did connect with the side of Marchand's face. Now the reason I don't know if I would call that as suspendible play is because you can see that Marchand is lowering his shoulder and wants to catch Bennett with a huge hit in response Bennett is just trying to protect himself.
Either way NHL player safety has been hit and miss all season and it seems like the playoffs won't change that. Nobody knows what the standard is. Nobody knows what is not a suspension and we're scratching our heads.
