As far as hits go, this was a nasty one. Unfortunately for Max Friberg, it came from his own teammate.
Max Friberg, who had a brief NHL career, has been playing for Frolunda of the SHL since 2017 in his home country of Sweden, and serves as the team's captain.
Today, while taking part in a game against the Vaxjo Lakers, Friberg was involved in a nasty collision with a teammate, and hit the back of his head on the ice as he was falling.
A player from the opposing team was the first to come to Friberg's aid. He was clearly out for a few seconds. His confusion and the effects of the collision were on clear display as he was being helped off the ice.
As you can see in the video, Max Friberg's legs were very wobbly as he went down the tunnel. The look in his eyes said he has little idea of what just happened.
In an update as the game was still being played, Friberg's coach told reporters that he was awake and there was no need for an ambulance. However, he was not allowed to return to the game for obvious reasons.
Max Friberg was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He played several games in the AHL with the Norfolk Admirals and St. John's Ice Caps, but managed just six in the NHL, all with Anaheim.
It's very fortunate that Friberg didn't need an ambulance. That was an absolutely awful looking fall to the ice. That said, I can't see him playing for Frolunda for at least a few games.
Friberg won a gold medal with Team Sweden at the World Juniors in 2012. He added a World Championship bronze with Sweden in 2024.
