NHL waiver news has dropped for Thursday, and it sees two players hitting the wire. One of them for the purpose of having his contract terminated.

First, the Washington Capitals have placed 25-year-old Matthew Phillips on waivers. The forward has played 27 games with the Caps this season after spending all of his previous seasons with the Calgary Flames organization. He has 1 goals and 5 points in 2023-24 so far.

"Placed on NHL waivers today: Matthew Phillips (WSH)."

Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights have placed a draft pick of theirs on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract. 22-year-old Marcus Kallionkieli was taken in the fifth round (139th overall) in 2019. He has never played in the NHL, but has spent some time with the Henderson Silver Knights of the AHL, and Savannah Ghost Pirates of the ECHL. The Finn is playing in his home country this season with Kiekko-Espoo of the Mestis Hockey League, the second highest men's hockey league in Finland.

"Marcus Kallionkieli placed on unconditional waivers by #VGK and will have his contract terminated."

Rem Pitlick of the Chicago Blackhawks, who was placed on waivers yesterday, has cleared and will likely be sent to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.
