New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning Swap Forwards On the Trade Market
The New York Rangers and the Tampa Bay Lightning swapped two forwards on the trade market a day after the blockbuster deal involving Mikko Rantanen.
Yesterday, the Colorado Avalanche made a massive trade with the Carolina Hurricanes and the Chicago Blackhawks. They sent their superstar Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes and have gotten Matin Necas and Chris Drury. A few draft picks were also involved in the deal.
Such important deals often lead to other trades around the League, and that's what just happened.
In breaking news, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Rangers have agreed on the terms of a trade involving forwards Lucas Edmonds and Ryder Korczak.
The Tampa Bay Lightning published the following press release on NHL.com:
"TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired forward Ryder Korczak from the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Lucas Edmonds, vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois announced today.
Korczak, 22, has played in 35 games with the American Hockey League's Hartford Wolf Pack this season, recording three goals and 11 points with 14 penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating.
The 5-foot-11, 172-pound forward has skated in 107 career AHL contests, all with Hartford, registering 12 goals and 31 points with three power-play goals and 42 penalty minutes.
He made his Calder Cup Playoffs debut last season with the Wolf Pack, collecting one goal and two points in 10 postseason contests.
A native of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Korczak was originally drafted by the Rangers, 75th overall, in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft."
The two players were third-round draft picks by the Lightning and the Rangers, but none of them have gotten their shot in the NHL yet, spending the past seasons in the AHL.
This minor trade could indicate bigger deals in the work for both the Rangers and the Lightning, with the deadline slowly approaching.
