Carolina Hurricanes could back out of Tony DeAngelo trade
While the details were still being worked out, it seemed a trade between the Carolina Hurricanes and Philidelphia Flyers that would have seen Tony DeAngelo shipped to Raleigh is stalled. Now, we're hearing there a chance the Canes could back out completely.
Several reporters on Twitter today are saying it appears the trade is stalled, and the reasoning seems to be that the Hurricanes are very interested in brining in Erik Karlsson from the San Jose Sharks. Doing so would leave no room for DeAngelo, even with the Flyers retaining some of his salary.
Karlsson has a cap hit of $11.5 million for the next four seasons, the highest of any defenceman in the NHL. While San Jose will likely have to retain some salary in a trade, word is the team doesn't want to do much more than $3 million per season. It seems Carolina views DeAngelo as more of a consolation prize should their talks with the Sharks fall through.
