Nearly one week ago, it was reported that Ducks goaltender John Gibson requested a trade and said that he wouldn't play for Anaheim again. Not long after that report came out from Frank Seravalli, Gibson's agent refuted what was said.

It's unclear what will happen this summer when it comes to John Gibson, but it's safe to say that he would prefer to play on a contending team next season, and Anaheim isn't anywhere close to that.

The most ideal option for John Gibson heading into this summer would have been his hometown team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, but they decided to re-sign Tristan Jarry to a five-year contract.

It appears that another Metropolitan Division team has entered the picture and may be viewed as the favourite to land John Gibson ahead of the 2023-24 season.

According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the New Jersey Devils have discussed the possibility of trading for John Gibson, but are still weighing if they'll try to add him or go into next season with a tandem of Akira Schmid and Vitek Vanecek.

"Why, yes, sources tell us, that is exactly what New Jersey is doing as they weigh whether the Vitek Vanecek-Akira Schmid tandem can get them to the promised land coming out of a division that features Igor Shesterkin and Ilya Sorokin in a league in which Adin Hill's team won the Cup."

Gibson, 29, has four years remaining on his contract with an average annual value of $6.4 million and a modified no-trade clause. This past season, Gibson appeared in 53 games where he sported a record of 14-31-8 along with a 3.99 goals against average, an .899 save percentage and one shutout.
