Insider provides update on Trevor Zegras's contract talks and what his next deal could potentially look like
The Anaheim Ducks took care of some business last month signing Troy Terry to a seven-year, $49-million contract. This was one of general manager Pat Verbeek's major tasks this off-season the other is signing the teams top point producer from last season Trevor Zegras.
The 22 year old Zegras scored 23 goals and 65 points in 81 games last season. The brash New York native has eye popping skill and beaming with confidence. He already has two Michigan goals on his resume in his young NHL career.
Daily Faceoffs' Frank Seravalli gave his thoughts on the Zegras contract situation:
Zegras' market for a long-term deal is likely set at around $8M AAV, if that number doesn't work for one or both sides, a short-term agreement would likely come in at around $5M AAV.
The Ducks finished in the basement of the league last season with a record of 23-47-12. The fanbase and organization have been going through some growing pains the last few seasons in Anaheim but the future is bright, the roster is young and built for the future. The next big step for the franchise will be locking up Zegras which will eventually happen. The only question is whether it will be short-term or long-term?
