Alex Galchenyuk reportedly close to finding a new home for 2023-24
Earlier in August, former third overall pick Alex Galchenyuk was linked with a move to Spartak Moscow in the KHL, but nothing ever materialized.
It appears that Galchenyuk is close to signing with another KHL club - SKA St. Petersburg, who have 2023 seventh overall pick Matvei Michkov on their roster.
"Something to keep an eye on. 👀
Stepan Voronkov reports that Alex Galchenyuk will soon sign a contract with SKA. #KHL
If this report turns out to be true, SKA will have to shed some contracts and/or other financial loopholes will have to be found.
As of right now, SKA is WAY over the cap." Hockey News Hub said on Twitter.
The 29-year-old was set to play for the Arizona Coyotes next season after signing a one-year deal with them, but had his contract terminated shortly after due to him being arrested by Scottsdale Police on a number of charges including private property hit-and-run, disorderly conduct, failure to obey, resisting arrest and threatening or intimidating.
He apologized to everyone involved including the police officers and to the Coyotes organization and said he was going to enter the NHL/NHLPA Players Assistance Program, but it's unclear if he'll still be going through with the program if he signs in Russia.
