Just after Christmas the Detroit Red Wings made the decision to fire head coach Derek Lalonde and hire Todd McLellan as his replacement.
The move for the Red Wings came after they struggled to begin the season and still currently sit near the bottom of the Eastern Conference Standings.
After the change was made Red Wings superstar Patrick Kane spoke to the media and divulged that he was excited to get back to simple hockey under McLellan.
This seemed to be a sign that Kane was ready to continue moving forward with the Red Wings and stick out the season despite many believing he was still looking to chase a Stanley Cup this late into his career.
Tonight a new report now has put Kane's future with the Red Wings back in doubt as there is some belief the Red Wings could look to move on from Kane to benefit their rebuild.
This season Kane has struggled to find success individually which has led Adam Proteau of The Hockey News to believe a change of scenery is necessary for both sides.
According to Proteau, Kane and the Red Wings just have not been a good mix this season and the Red Wings should take advantage of the trade value he still possesses to bring in future assets that can set the team up to win long-term.
At 36 years old Kane has just 17 points this season but in an environment surrounded by higher-end talent has shown he can succeed.
As the NHL Trade Deadline approaches we will continue to monitor this situation and provide all the latest details on Patrick Kane's future in Detroit and beyond.
