Mark Messier Makes His Feelings Extremely Clear on the New York Rangers Disastrous Season
Today former New York Rangers legend Mark Messier made a surprising statement about the Rangers locker room believing they are broken beyond repair.
Throughout the last week, the New York Rangers have been linked to a trade to shake up their core and bring in J.T. Miller by a few sources.
With news of the Rangers potentially looking to make yet another shakeup this season NHL legend Mark Messier spoke out and urged the team to not make further moves until they fix the problems within.
Messier revealed that all of the major trades involving captain Jacob Trouba and young star Kaapo Kakko have ruined the trust at all levels of the New York Rangers locker room.
Messier believes that from the top on down no one can trust and lean on one another during difficult moments and that is impacting the product on the ice.
I think right now the core of the Rangers is fractured right now," said Messier on Saturday. "I don't think they are fractured internally but I think there's a disconnect between management and the coaching staff, there's a lack of trust and loyalty now, and in order to get over that it's going to take a lot of work.
While Messier admits this is an incredibly difficult problem for the Rangers organization and one that needs to be fixed as quickly as possible he knows from personal experience it is possible.
Mark Messier reveals how the Edmonton Oilers stuck together after Wayne Gretzky trade
During his time with the Edmonton Oilers Messier experienced a similar scenario when the Oilers front office decided to move on from Wayne Gretzky trading him away.
After the trade Messier confirms the locker room was angry and broken and frustrated and that it took a lot of work to get things back on track.
I remember when Edmonton traded Wayne Gretzky and how that affected us, and how mad we were at management for trading away a brother... we were able to overcome it as mad as we were at the ownership, admitted Messier.
Now the New York Rangers led by Chris Kreider, Artemi Panarin, Igor Shesterkin and others will have to undertake the same task as they try to all move forward together and get back toward a Stanley Cup Playoff spot.
