Rangers' Peter Laviolette Drops a Surprising Take on Matt Rempe's Impact After Return to the Team
Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette finally spoke about Matt Rempe's impact on the team after his return to action after serving an eight-game suspension.
It is evident that Matt Rempe is highlighting a different side to him after the eight-game suspension.
The 22-year-old forward recently claimed that he, feels to be a marked man, adding that he needs to be, more careful with how he throws his weight around.
«I don't take any penalties,» Rempe said. «Still being very physical just haven't taken any penalties, so I want to be very physical, but I don't want to take any penalties.»
The New York Rangers have reportedly seen Rempe in his first three games after the suspension remain disciplined as they expect it to be a rare sight.
It is uplifting for the team to have him step up in this manner, as the team considerably lacks the morale boost that it provides.
Peter Laviolette is impressed with Matt Rempe
Peter Laviolette, the head coach of the team, is in agreement, adding that the Rangers are working with him in regard to his physical attributes, but without seeking to avoid unnecessary penalties.
«I think he looks good,» Laviolette said. «I think some nights he is more noticeable based on the hits and the forecheck and what he can bring to the table, but I do think when he is on the ice it creates a buzz, it creates a noise out there He is doing what we are asking him to do.»
«We talk to him about it all the time,» Laviolette said about conversations with Rempe. «We've talked to him about where he can and can't. In his mind, he is tracking something and things change along the way. He has to process that and then make the right decisions as he is closing in on a hit. I think he is learning. He's got to work from that and learn from that.»
Rempe is also in this dialogue, as he claims that he is overall satisfied and working towards embracing his physical style. He only has one assist in eight games so far this season.
It is comforting to know that Rempe is actually working hard to improve his previous shortcomings, with the hope of becoming a reliable player in the NHL.
