Veteran UFA defenceman could be a fit for New York Rangers bottom pair
Mark Giordano most recently spent time with the Toronto Maple Leafs and although his leadership was appreciated, due to his age and injuries that plagued him for at least part of his tenure in Toronto his full potential may not have been maximized.
With that being said, the forty-year-old free-agent defenceman may have a suitor in the New York Rangers who although have a solid back end, could look to the veteran for their bottom pairing on the left side.
For starters, Giordano would provide leadership that at times last season, the Rangers appeared to lack. It doesn't hurt to add Giordano who has the pedigree to lead in tough markets as he's experienced playing in Canada with Calgary and of course, Toronto where the microscope is on you 24/7. But the question should be if you're willing to take him on, how long do you, and for how much? At the veteran minimum for one year, it could make sense if the Rangers are still in win-now mode.
Could the Rangers come calling and Rangers' faithful see Giordano take one last kick at the can before hanging them up for good? Is it a good fit for both parties? Could he inject what was missing this past season to lead them to another long run and ultimately to a successful Stanley Cup Run? As the summer progresses, It's an intriguing thought.
