Phildelphia Flyers goalie Ivan Fedotov made his highly anticipated NHL debut on Sunday versus the New York Islanders. He wasn't the starter on the night, instead came into the game after Samuel Ersson allowed two goals on six shots in the first period. It was a big game for the Flyers who are clinging onto the final Wild Card spot with the Capitals and Islanders hot on their tail so head coach John Tortorella wanted to change the momentum of the game.

Phidelphia would tie the game within the first minute of the second thanks to a goal from defenceman Travis Sanheim. New York would respond before the end of the period to take the lead into the final frame.

The Islanders almost had the game won in regulation, with only ten seconds left Flyers forward Morgan Frost scored the game tying goal to send the game to overtime.

Before the extra frame began, a funny moment was caught between the two Russian netminders. Fedotov still learning the ropes in his first ever NHL game, forgot to switch nets to begin overtime. Islanders veteran Semyon Varlamov came over to Fedotov, giving him a tap signaling to make the switch.

New York forward Brock Nelson would score his 30th goal in the extra frame to spoil Fedotov's first NHL game. The rookie played well stopping 21 of 23 shots but was ultimately outdueled by the veteran Varlamov who made 33 saved in the win.

With the Flyers goalie situation shaky of late, now is the perfect time for the franchise to see what they have in their Russian enigma, with points being so precious in the final stretch run of the season.
