Maple Leafs announce signing of NCAA free agent Jacob Quillan
The Toronto Maple Leafs are dipping their toes into the NCAA free agent market and are reportedly close to locking up one of the top available forwards.
In a post on X on Monday night, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Toronto Maple Leafs will be signing NCAA free agent forward Jacob Quillan, who spent the last three years at Quinnipiac University.
"There is word Toronto is signing Dartmouth, NS native Jacob Quillan out of Quinnipiac. Won a national championship last year, lots of competition for his services this year." Friedman said.
The 22-year-old put up 46 points (17 goals, 29 assists), 16 penalty minutes and was a plus-17 in 39 games this season. Last season, Quillan won the NCAA championship with Quinnipiac and scored the winning goal in the final.
Quillan was highly sought after in recent days after his NCAA season came to a close in the regional final and it was only a matter of time before he put pen-to-paper on an NHL contract.
UPDATE: The Maple Leafs have officially announced the signing of Jacob Quillan to a two-year, entry-level contract.
