The Seattle Kraken are a team that have shown major support of the LGBTQ people and pride night jersey's, and now Head Coach Dan Bylsma has called out their critics.
After backlash from a loud minority of players in the NHL, the league made the controversial decision to ban special occasion jersey's in the NHL, meaning that things like Hockey Fights Cancer, Military Appreciation and Pride Night among others would no longer be celebrated with jerseys on the ice.
However, this hasn't stopped teams from designing jerseys and wearing them for walk ins as well as auctioning them off for good causes, with one team in particular that does a great job being the Seattle Kraken, who designed this beautiful ones this season.
Unsurprisingly, there are some vocal fans on social media that aren't huge fans of that, to which Head Coach Dan Bylsma called out in a huge way after being involved in the photo shoot with the jerseys.
"I think just the message of the NHL and making the game available to anybody and everybody. And that's not from just a playing standpoint, that's from an enjoyment standpoint as well, and it's just a symbol of being inclusive, because I think that's what our game is all about. This is a great game of hockey for each and every one of us, male, female... everybody. And it's a great game to watch. It's a great game to play, and the more we can be inclusive of everybody, is what we want to do."
This was a message from Bylsma, who reiterated that the support of this community is to show that hockey is for everyone no matter their situation, a message that should be widely supported.
Unfortunately, there's always going to be those that oppose pride night and the jerseys, so hopefully teams continue to support the cause and show that everyone is welcome in the NHL and in hockey.
