Back in 2009, the Dallas Stars drafted Alex Chiasson out of Boston University, and after posting 61 points across his first two full seasons, the belief was that they had found a solid NHLer.
However, he would then go on to play for a further six teams between 2014 and 2023, with the Montreal native playing 651 games between Dallas, Ottawa, Calgary, Washington, Edmonton, Vancouver and Detroit.
Now, the 34-year old has officially announced his retirement from the NHL after not playing since 2022/23 with the Detroit Red Wings where he posted a solid 3 goals and 9 points in just 20 games played.
The biggest moment of his career came back in 2018 with the Washington Capitals, where Chiasson played 61 games, tallying 9 goals and 9 assists over the season that ultimately ended with him hoisting the Stanley Cup.
In those 651 games played, Chiasson tallied 120 goals and 233 points, and while he never ascended to the stardom you'd hope from a second-round draft pick, he certainly played his role in the league.
Chiasson has already come out of retirementt once however, so there's no guarantees that won't happen again, but for now this is the last we'll see of him in the NHL.
Unfortunately, not everyone ends up being a star in the NHL, but Chiasson used that well and carved out a very solid career for himself, and with a Stanley Cup and over 650 games under his belt, it's safe to say that he retires a very happy man after a solid career at the NHL level.
