The Tampa Bay Lightning have recently signed a 28-year-old goaltender to a contract, and today he was quickly placed on waivers by the club.

Veteran netminder Brandon Halverson has turned his impressive play into an NHL contract., as the Tampa Bay Lightning announced on February 3rd that they signed Halverson to a two-year contract taking him through the 2025-26 season.

Halverson has been placed on waivers

However, today, Halverson was placed on waivers for the purpose of reassignment back to Syracuse, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

He backed up Andrei Vasilevskiy on Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators and will do so again for the second half of their home-and-home tonight, but clearing waivers will allow the team to return him to the minors as soon as tomorrow or over the 4 Nations Face-Off break.

Halverson had been the top goaltender playing on an AHL contract this season and arguably one of the top players.

The Traverse City, MI native returned to North America last season after a one-year trial with the Bayreuth Tigers of the DEL2 league over in Germany.

He spent much of last season with the ECHL's Orlando Solar Bears, where he posted 14 wins, 12 losses, and 3 overtime losses in 32 games, along with a lovely .913 save percentage and a solid 2.82 goals-against average.

After joining the AHL's Syracuse Crunch for the playoff stretch, his performance improved quite a bit, achieving a record of 7-3-3 in just 14 games, with a .913 save percentage and a stellar 2.18 goals-against average.

The question is, will he be claimed? We will know in less than 24 hours.
