The Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators have always had a heated rivalry, it never seems to matter where the two franchises are in the standings.

On Saturday night, Senators forward Ridley Greig turned the burners up on the rivalry to scorching hot by potting a slap shot, empty-net goal from inches away from the net to seal Ottawa's 5-3 victory. Maple Leafs defenceman Morgan Rielly responded accordingly by laying the lumber to Greig with a vicious two handed cross-check to his face.

The initial video clips of the incident and reaction from fans as a collective have condemned Rielly before any official announcement from the league.

A new video of the play has emerged, Greig can be seen putting a little extra on the fall.

There is no doubt Rielly was incensed by Greig's actions in the moment and had intent to hurt him. It's going to likely cost Rielly some money and games.

Unfortunately, fans will need to wait until next season for any response, as last night was the season finale between the two teams. Ottawa has bragging rights winning three out of the four games.
