Barry Trotz has his first interview after being fired by the New York Islanders
Barry Trotz was surprisingly terminated by the New York Islanders after a disappointing season. The head coach had taken the Islanders to back-to-back Conference Finals, during both trips they were defeated by the eventual Stanley Cup Champions. But that wasn't enough to keep Trotz job, especially after rumours surfaced of a rift between Trotz and the Islanders best player, Mathew Barzal.
But as expected Trotz won't be out of a job long as he's already had his 1st job interview. Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported the following information:
Hearing Winnipeg is interviewing Barry Trotz for its coaching position today.
There is an expectation that Trotz could complete a full interview circuit before determining which team he'd like to coach. It is expected Trotz could receive interest from the Detroit Red Wings, Vegas Golden Knights and Philadelphia Flyers before he makes a final decision.
Trotz is going to immediately create a very structured system for whichever team he chooses to coach and will likely provide an immediate impact to the players in the locker room. It will be interesting to see which team feels Trotz style and approach could be beneficial as he's also been known to smoother certain players offensive abilities along with way, which led to his rift with Barzal.
