Ben Harpur signs with an Eastern Conference team after scary preseason KO
You can never have too much depth when it comes to defensemen, especially for teams who are looking to make a Stanley Cup run. The New York Rangers season hasn't got off to the started they were expecting. The Rangers have gone 3-3-2 to begin the season.
Yesterday Chris Drury made the decision to add some depth to his defense core when he announced he'd signed Ben Harpur to a one year contract.
Harpur who was recently seen in the Columbus Blue Jackets organization on a professional tryout was absolutely destroyed in a fight by Jamie Devane, of the Penguins at the time.
Witness the KO below:
Harpur was able to fly back to Columbus after the game and was obviously released later.
Since the tough guy was signed to a PTO by the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack before being signed to a one-year deal by the New York Rangers. Harpur will be assigned to the Wolfpack.
Harpur has played in 180 career AHL games between the Wolf Pack, Admirals, Toronto Marlies and the Belleville/Binghamton Senators, recording seven goals and 49 assists for 56 points. He recorded career-highs in assists (25) and points (27) with Binghamton in 2016-17. The following season, he was an alternate captain for the club.
