Bettman Drops Major Announcement On What The NHL Is Working On Next
It was reported in early December that the NHL was looking at hosting an international in season best-on-best men's hockey tournament by 2025. It appears like the NHL is making progress with what the commissioner of the NHL said on a most recent broadcast.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman joined the crew for their pregame broadcast ahead of today's Winter Classic between the Vegas Golden Knights and Seattle Kraken.
"And we'll get to announcing something relatively soon is going to be about best on best international which extenuates one of the great strengths of our game."
Bettman called the international tournament as an appetizer for an eventual World Cup of Hockey.
The last best-on-best tournament occurred in 2016 when Canada hosted the World Cup of Hockey. The teams that participated included Canada (24-and-over), the United States (24-and-over), Czechia, Finland, Sweden, Russia, Europe and North America (23-and-under).
