During a game being played in the SHL, a former player of the Anaheim Ducks got slashed in the face by a former Vancouver Canucks player in a dangerous play.

A scary moment in an SHL game between Rogle BK and Brynas IF saw Rogle's Albin Sundsvik take a skateblade to the face, ending up with a deep cut that was stitched up multiple times.

It happened when the Brynas forward Anton Rodin fell over a stick near Rogle's net and was skated on the cheek by his skate. Sundsvik, a 2020 sixth-round draft pick of the Anaheim Ducks, went down to the ice immediately.

However, it took some time before the referees managed to stop the game, which in essence delayed any medical attention.

Rogle BK confirmed Sundsvik had been taken to the hospital. He described the injury as a deep laceration and added that he didn't understand why the whistle was so late.

"Blood started coming out pretty much right away. Then I put my hands against it. I felt that it was on the cheek but that the wound was quite deep. But also that it was not against the eyes or the mouth and that it was not on the neck. It went pretty fast."

"I don't really know what happened, it is what it is. Maybe they didn't see the blood or thought I got a stick in the face. It's scary - if it had been a few centimeters in any other place, it would have been important seconds."

The setback is not expected to keep Sundsvik, a leading scorer for Rogle, out for long, though when he does return, he will wear a full visor for added protection, along with a neck guard that he highly recommends others get as a precaution.
