Earlier in the offseason, it was reported that Minnesota Wild star forward Kirill Kaprizov may be in some hot water in his native Russia due to military service evasion. At the time, Wild GM Bill Guerin down played the situation. But it is being reported now that the situation was in fact very serious, and that Guerin and the rest of the Wild front office were concerned.

"It was very serious. I was very concerned. We all were in the organization. We had to act quickly and jump through a bunch of hoops" - Bill Guerin on Kirill Kaprizov

Kaprizov was originally selected by the Wild in the fifth round (135th overall) back in the 2015 NHL entry draft. The now 25-year-old remained in the KHL until two years ago. Last season, he emerged as one of the NHL's top players, putting up 108 points (47 goals & 61 assists) in 81 games played. Additionally, Kaprizov finished seventh in Hart trophy voting.

While the Wild are happy to have their star player back, some things are bigger than hockey. This feels like one of them.
