Breaking News - Surprising Eastern Conference team reportedly has interest in Zdeno Chara
Last year Zdeno Chara's season came to a disappointing end. The 45-year-old defenseman was hoping to make a final Stanley Cup run with the New York Islanders, but after a brutal start to the season that didn't come to pass. Now with rumors circulating that Chara is considering retirement, there appears to be at least one Eastern Conference team now showing interest.
The New York Rangers are reportedly still in the market for a veteran defenseman to add some snarl to their bottom pairing. The Rangers reportedly had a lot of interest in Nathan Beaulieu, before he signed a professional tryout with the Anaheim Ducks.
Now it appears the Rangers have narrowed down their search for defensive help to 3 names.
#NYR likely still in the market for a veteran D-man to join on a tryout. Had interest in Nathan Beaulieu, who agreed to a PTO with the Ducks on Friday. Not many options left: Thomas Hickey, Michael Stone, maybe even Zdeno Chara among those still out there.
With only a couple weeks before pre-season action gets started it'll be interesting to see as names begin to shakeout and find their potential homes for next season, if Chara will return for another year or call it a career.
