When the Montreal Canadiens, Excutive Vice President Jeff Gorton hired agent Kent Hughes as the Canadiens new General Manager, there were many who questioned the team's decisions. Especially give some of the other candidates who were considered to have much more experience. However, Hughes previous job as a top player agent could definitely turn out to be an asset for the Canadiens.
During this weeks 32 Thoughts Podcast with Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman, NHL Insider shared the following
Watch out for Ottawa Senators Center Colin White and the Canadiens. Friedman reminds people that Habs Gm Kent Hughes negotiated White's current contract and Friedman said that there had been conversations between the two.
Friedman believes White could definitely be a member of the Canadiens next season.
Colin White, 25, was drafted 21st overall in the 2015 NHL draft. White has played in 213 games with the Senators and has 34 goals and 60 assists. With the possibility of White going to Montreal it makes you wonder what other former clients of Kent Hughes, could possibly join the Canadiens?
There's were rumours that Kent Hughes would eventually like to talk with Bruins' Captain, Patrice Bergeron, if he becomes an unrestricted free agent. The idea would be for him, to come sign with the Canadiens and mentor the Canadiens' Nick Suzuki. However Bergeron has stated he wants to extend his contract with the Boston Bruins.
Another former client and possibility is Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman and pending UFA Kris Letang. Letang is from Montreal and is very talented player. The only real question for the Canadiens is, would bringing in the 34-year old make sense?
But it could definitely happen with the Canadiens having a cupboard full of young prospects, Letang could come in and help the Canadiens' young defenders development, but would Letang want to come play for his home team in that roll is the question.
