Dallas already has big money tied up in Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn, and Miro Heiskanen. Seguin and Benn contracts take up twenty two percent of Dallas' cap space. They also are going to have the same contract situation with Roope Hintz next year who is a good young player who deserves a raise as well. It is expected that Robertson is seeking somewhere around the seven to nine-million-dollar range per season. On one hand, the Stars could go for it and sign Robertson to a big long-term contract extension. That would tie them up financially for some time. Or the Stars could offer Robertson a bridge deal that could give them some time and flexibility with their cap space in the short-term. You would have to imagine that the two sides come to some sort of agreement shortly. Robertson has emerged as one of the league's top young players and Dallas must want him in their long-term plans. At least there have been on going contract talks between both parties and there isn't a stalemate. Dallas might have to yield and give Robertson what he's asking and adjust their cap space with the rest of its roster. Easier said than done though.
