The wait for the New York Islanders and and star forward Mathew Barzal to come to terms on a new contract is finally over. According to Kevin Weekes of ESPN and the New York islanders, the extension for Barzal is 8 years and Carrie's an AAV of 9.15M.
Barzal, 25, skated in 73 games last season for the islanders, scoring 15 goals and adding 44 assists for 59 points. In 362 career games he has 311 total points.
Barzal's new deal kicks in after this season and definitely puts the team in a better spot offensively. Maybe Lou knows what he's doing after all, either that or he finally woke up and decided to retain a star player.
