The Department of Player Safety has decided to come down hard on Charlie McAvoy of the Boston Bruins following a hit last night on Oliver Ekman-Larsson. McAvoy will sit for four games in total.
Given his current deal with the Bruins, McAvoy forfeits pretty close to $200,000 of his salary (USD).
The official ruling from the NHL, with a full explanation of the decision, can be viewed below.
It's pretty clear from the early season suspensions that the NHL Department of Player Safety have handed out that the standard of punishment for these type of plays are being harshly and more swiftly dealt with.
