The way things unfolded with the Vancouver Canucks firing of Bruce Boudreau. This not only made the Canucks organization look bad, but Jim Rutherford as a person.

Did you know, Bruce Boudreau scored his first NHL goal when the Detroit Red Wings faced the Toronto Maple Leafs on March 12th, 1977, against Jim Rutherford. Take a look:

This also happens to be a game in which the Leafs also happen to shut out the Red Wings 6-0.

This would explain why Jim Rutherford would treat him so callously on his way out. Holding a grudge for over 40 years seems like something only Rutherford would do.

Between Rutherford's comments regarding Boudreau early in the season and his comments regarding the situation, it appears that there is still some bad blood between the old friends'. Well, JR, 40 some odd years later, you finally got your revenge, it only took the entire fan base of the NHL hating your organization to do it.

While this isn't actually the case, it's amazing to see how small the hockey world truly is and how things come full circle.
