Flyers prove it's all business, waive forward to buy him out
Oskar Lindblom is absolutely adored by Philadelphia Flyers fans. Lindblom embodied the spirit of Philadelphia when he overcame a form of bone cancer to return to the Flyers lineup. Lindblom even won the Masterson Trophy for his perseverance and dedication to the game.
Unfortunately for Lindblom hockey is still a business. Despite being adored by the fanbase, it's clear that the Flyers are positioning themselves to make a major move in free agency. Today the Flyers announced they had placed Lindblom on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract.
Because of his age and games played Lindblom will qualify for the 1/3 buyout for the Flyers. This will give the Flyers a $333,333 cap credit this season and a $666,667 penalty next season.
This money will allow the Flyers to open cap space to pursue Johnny Gaudreau should he hit the free agent market.
