Former 3rd overall pick signs professional tryout with Stanley Cup Contender
When the Montreal Canadiens drafted Alex Galchenyuk 3rd overall they had extremely high hopes for him. But after 6 seasons in Montreal he was traded to the Arizona Coyotes. In his first season in Arizona, Galchenyuk netted 19 goals before being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Phil Kessel.
After the trade to Pittsburgh Galchenyuk's numbers fell off completely. In his lone season as a Penguin he only scored 5 goals before being traded to the Minnesota Wild. From there he signed a deal with the Ottawa Senators which didn't work out, he was quickly traded to the Carolina Hurricanes and then the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Last season Galchenyuk returned to the Coyotes where he scored 21 points in 60 games. This summer he has been unable to find a team willing to commit to him, until now.
According to Peter Baugh the former 3rd overall pick has agreed to a deal with the Avs.
The #Avs are signing Alex Galchenyuk to a PTO, per a source. He had 21 points in 60 games with Arizona last season.
Galchenyuk will be in tough to make the Avs who are one of the deepest teams in the entire league.
