Zdeno Chara signs a contract with the Boston Bruins
Zdeno Chara is a 25 year NHL veteran, who has accomplished everything he ever wanted as an NHL player. Chara won both a Norris Trophy and Stanley Cup with the Bruins. Chara played 1680 games in his career for 4 different teams.
Chara left the Bruins two seasons ago for the Washington Capitals before heading to the New York Islanders. Seeing Chara in a jersey other than the Bruins never felt right, but today that was made right. Today the Boston Bruins announced that they'd officially signed Chara to a 1 day contract.
After signing the contract to return to the Bruins, Chara officially announced his retirement from the NHL. In the press conference Chara shared just how much his time with the Bruins meant to him:
When I was a young boy I never dreamed that I'd be here someday having a press conference after 25 years in the NHL. This all feels so surreal to me.
I have no regrets at all. I wouldn't change a thing. We are in a business where we are ultimately judged by winning and we experienced our highs and lows with that, but I walk away knowing I gave it everything I had all the time.
It's great to see Chara return and for the last jersey he ever put on to be the Boston Bruins jersey. Congratulations Zdeno.
