Reid Boucher is a disgraced former NHLer. One who recently pled guilty to sexually assaulting a minor. Boucher pled guilty to sexually assaulting his 12-year-old billet sister when he was a 17-year-old playing for the US National Development Program.

Many thought this conviction would be the end of Boucher's playing career, but a KHL team has stepped up to ensure that was not the case. Avangard Omsk announced last week that they'd signed Boucher to a one-year contract. Avangard's General Manager issued the following statement on the matter.

The decision regarding Reed Boucher was not an easy one, we understand the pressure that was put on him at the end of last season, both here in Europe and in his homeland. After long conversations and consultations, Bush announced his desire to play for Avangard. Like Knight, he knows Dmitry Ryabykin very well, our teami's game system. He likes Avangard and wants to play at the new arena in Omsk.

As for the situation that caused him to leave Russia last season, we understand that Reid made a mistake. Plus, he was underage at the time. It is very important what conclusions a person draws from his mistakes, how he changes. Reed fully realized his guilt. A lot of time has passed since then, and the club decided to give Reid a second chance. Everyone deserves to be given this chance. Moreover, the reputation of Bush before that was absolutely clean.
