Brandon Sutter was originally drafted in the first round of the 2007 Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes. He then bounced around the league playing on multiple teams. Then in 2015 he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks by the Pittsburgh Penguins. The forward played 6 seasons with the Canucks but was unable to play last season due to complications from a COVID-19 infection. Now it looks like his career may be over.

Sutter's contract has now expired with the Canucks making him a free agent. Ben Kuzma of The Province, recently spoke to Sutter about his health. After missing all of last season after having trouble breathing and exhaustion due to COVID-19, Kuzma asked how Sutter's recovery was going and the diagnosis is not good.

I'm a 100 per cent better than I was a year ago. But I still can't train or work out. When I do too much, it just crushes me.

Brandon Sutter is still experiencing what is known as «long-haul» COVID-19 symptoms. He is still having trouble catching his breathe and can't train. His body currently won't let him.

This is a scary turn of events for Sutter whose career in the NHL looks to be over. Hopefully he can recover enough to live a normal post-hockey life.
