Former first round pick suffers significant injury requiring surgery while playing in Europe
Former New York Islanders' first-round pick, Josh Ho-Sang was playing his first game in the KHL with Salavat Yulayev UFA against SKA.
The 26-year-old, was involved in a collision during the game, and has undergone surgery for a significant injury. Ho-Sang was able to pick up an assist before the injury occurred.
said Rinat Bashirov, GM of Salavat Yulaev.'>
Ho-Sang is expected to miss up to three months of action. He did give his thoughts on the KHL following the game.
«I am very happy to come out in the form of «Salavat Yulaev» in the first match of the KHL. For me it's an honor. To be honest, while getting used to the style of play in the league after the NHL and AHL. I came to Russia to make a show, to please the fans with my game. For me, beautiful and bright hockey is important. Yesterday I was surprised how the opponent stopped the attacks. Constant hooks, hard hits after attacks at speed, which can lead to damage."
"Did the doctors help me after the match? Yes, I finished the match with an injury. I ran to the attack at speed, I was already without a puck, there was a collision with me. I just want us to develop the KHL together, make shows for our beloved fans. There are many great hockey players in Russia, and if they are additionally protected by the rules, the game will become much more attractive. I want to return to the ice as soon as possible and again please everyone with my game,."
Ho-Sang has amassed 53 games in the NHL and over 200 in the AHL. He played with the Toronto Marlies last season, scoring 35 points in 47 games.
The Ontario Native also represented Canada at the Beijing Olympics last February, where he had three assists in five games.
