Frederik Andersen's blunder leads to hilariously bad goal
If you're looking for a blooper or an embarrassing moment in last night's busy NHL schedule look no further than Carolina Hurricanes goalie Freddie Andersen.
In the third period of a close game Pittsburgh was on the power play looking to get on the score board. Penguin forward Jake Guentzel lobbed the puck towards Frederick Andersen. Andersen made the correct play by catching it with his glove hand . Rather than hold onto the puck for a whistle, Andersen decided that he would drop the puck out of his glove and try to bat the puck out of midair with his goal stick.
In a close game this was a risky move by Andersen. He was able to bat the puck out of air, however it hit Penguins forward Rickard Rakell and went right into his own net
This turned out to by an important goal that made the game 2-1. Thankfully for Andersen, the game ended that way. I am sure Andersen learned his lesson and won't try these antics again during the game. Some times in hockey, players make bad decisions that turn out to be goals for the other team. That is what happened in this case.
Andersen has been pretty good overall for the Hurricanes. This was only his tenth game of the season as he recently returned from injury. This shows, he might be a little rusty. No doubt he will put this behind him and continue to focus on stopping pucks and help Carolina maintain top spot in the Metropolitan Division.
