German player ejected after questionable hit during first day of the World Juniors
The IIHF is known for having much stricter rules for hitting when compared to most professional hockey leagues. The IIHF works hard to remove targeted hits to the head and ensure overall player safety.
Today the World Juniors Hockey Championships kicked off as the IIHF attempts to complete the tournament that had been shutdown in January. The originally scheduled tournament was cancelled due to a COVID outbreak among multiple teams.
During tonight's matchup between Team Germany and Team USA we saw our first ejection of the tournament as German forward Bennet Rossmy delivered a big hit to Dominic James. On the play James appears to be falling when the hit is delivered.
On the play Rossmy was issued a 5-minute major and a game misconduct.
