Insider reveals the actual reason that PK Subban decided to retire
Two weeks ago PK Subban announced his retirement from the NHL. Rumors immediately began to swirl that Subban had only wanted to play for two teams and neither came calling. According to the rumours, Subban had his heart set on playing for the Montreal Canadiens or Toronto Maple Leafs. But neither team came calling.
It wasn't just the Leafs and Canadiens who didn't come calling, at least according to the Cam & Strick Podcast. The crew felt that the real reason Subban retired was no one wanted him at all.
Somebody would have signed him...if he could still play.
It's clear from multiple reports that for one reason or another, no NHL team felt Subban could help them. In a league where value contracts are the new norm, it's hard to believe that a former Norris Trophy winner couldn't get at least a professional tryout.
But maybe teams just felt that risk wasn't worth the reward? Last season PK drew a lot of attention for multiple slewfoots and for his comments about Jacob Panetta after an alleged racist taunt directed at his brother.
