Johnny Gaudreau is the real Hart Trophy favourite and here is why
Johnny Gaudreau is having a career year, along with the Calgary Flames sitting atop the Pacific Division. His 2021-2022 totals are 74 assists, and 39 goals a total of 113 points.
The 2014 Hobey Baker award winner has had the benefit of Daryl Sutter's system, and his linemates couldn't be any better than Matthew Tkachuk and Elias Lindholm this season.
While Gaudreau has been near 100-point territory before, he has been a consistent producer for the Flames.
Gaudreau has had outstanding seasons before. He racked up 60 assists in back-to-back years with the team in 201718 and 201819, amassing a career-high 99 points in 82 games in the latter season.
For a 4th rounder, he has been nothing short of a steal.
Johnny also has been keeping the Alberta rivalry fresh, as the Edmonton Oilers are one of the teams he's put points up against the most, with 1 goal and 7 assists. He also put up points against all 31 teams in the NHL, what is more, deserving than consistency?
While Auston Matthews has Mitch Marner and Connor McDavid has Leon Draisiatl, Gaudreau has turned Matthew Tkachuk into a 100-point player. Gaudreau has drug the Flames from out of a playoff position last season, to a Cup favourite this year and just in time. Gaudreau is an unrestricted free agent this summer and he is absolutely ready to cash in.
It is time to give Johnny Hockey The Hart Trophy.
