Matthew Tkachuk shocked the hockey world by forcing a trade from the Calgary Flames earlier this off-season, but is there a hidden detail that lead to the 24 year old's departure from Calgary? Other than the idea that Johnny Gaudreau left and he didn't want to play without him?

According to his former teammate Adam Ruzicka, Tkachuk had his sights set on being team captain after this season and he felt disrespected when that wasn't the direction the Flames wanted to go in.

I don't know what else played a role there but he really insisted on becoming a captain and think they couldn't fulfill that request which played a big role in him leaving

While I can understand Tkachuk wanting to be the captain, I don't think it's fair that he basically demanded that he wear the C in Calgary.

If there is any truth to what Ruzicka is saying, and let's be honest here, why would he lie now, then Tkachuk is anything but a team player in the locker room.

In fact, he may do whatever it takes to win on the ice, but off of it, is he a locker room cancer? Like I said, I get him asking to be named captain, I just don't think it's fair that he would put an organization he felt pride representing in such a compromising position.
