It has been well documented that Nathan MacKinnon takes his training and diet seriously. MacKinnon tries his best to keep his teammates from having too many cheat meals or slack off during practice. Some of his teammates have now come out with some hilarious stories.
He would say like «You're so fat. Stop eating shit
Ian Cole had mentioned how MacKinnon would look at him and let Cole know very bluntly that he was out of shape. MacKinnon even told future Conn Smythe winner Cale Makar after they were eliminated in the 2019 season that Makar wasn't good enough. Makar credits MacKinnon for pushing him to start training at a higher level.
Even Sidney Crosby of all people called out MacKinnon for his intensity. During summer training skates, MacKinnon would yell at Crosby to «WAKE UP». This was before MacKinnon was even in the NHL.
One of the first ever times we trained together he yelled across the ice at me to «WAKE UP»
It looks like all that extra hard work and disciple has paid off though. Now that MacKinnon has won the Stanley Cup for the first time in his career, he probably deserves a beer.
