The Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche series was billed as a MacKinnon versus McDavid. It was supposed to be a epic seven game battle between two of the leagues best players. But that didn't turn out to be the case after all.
After taking a 3-0 series lead the Colorado Avalanche were looking to punch their ticket the Stanley Cup Finals. The Oilers gave a solid effort but the Avalanche battled back from down 4-2 in the 3rd period to force overtime.
The Avalanche would complete the sweep 1:19 into overtime when Artturi Lehkonen would knock a puck down with a controversial high stick before putting the puck behind a sprawling Mike Smith.
The officials would review the play to make sure it wasn't a high stick. During the review former NHL referee, Don Koharski, who was doing play-by-play for TNT had a brain fart and cursed on air.
The Avalanche could have up to 12 days of rest waiting and resting to face the winner of Tampa Bay Lightning or New York Rangers series.
