The Buffalo Sabres continued their good start to their West Coast road trip by beating the Vancouver Canucks 5-1. Buffalo is 3-0 on their current road trip and 4-1 to start the season.

Sadly for Buffalo they did have an injury to deal with. Already dealing with injuries on the back end, things got worse when Mattias Samuelsson went into the corner boards with Canucks forward Curtis lazar and fell awkwardly. Samuelsson left the game and did not return.

Thankfully head coach Don Granato stated that the team received «good news» about Samuelsson's injury. That sounds like he will miss some time but the injury was not severe. That has to be a sigh of relief for Buffalo.

Samuelsson has become a big part of Buffalo's top four defensemen. Samuelsson is a stay at home defenseman and his game compliments players like Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power very well. Buffalo has dealt with many injuries already on the back end already this season. They have the depth to keep battling but they surely hope Samuelsson is not out long term.

Samuelsson just signed a seven year thirty million dollar contract extension so clearly Buffalo feels strongly about having him be apart of their future. With Samuelsson like out for some time, look for Lawrence Pilut and Casey Fitzgerald to fill in while he is recovering.
