After a «Decade of Darkness», the Edmonton Oilers look poised to make the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2006 when they lost to the Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup final. During that cup run, Edmonton was the scene of frequent vandalism, fights, and fires along popular bar district Whyte Avenue.

But a lot has changed since 2006. Edmonton now has the brand new Rogers Arena downtown, located just off of 104th Avenue. After games a section outside of the main entrance of the arena facing 104th Avenue is shut down. If it wasn't shut down by police, fans would be shutting it down themselves. After the Edmonton Oilers game 4 win to take a 3-1 series lead, fans started to get out of hand outside. One person climbed on top of a digital billboard, even though there were control spikes on top of it. He then proceed to drink heavily to the roar of the crowd. Unfortunately for the people below the young man had too much to drink and vomited on top of some of them.

The longer the Oilers playoff run goes, the wilder Edmonton will get. Those fans have been waiting 16 years to get this close to a Stanley Cup victory. As the northern most team in the NHL, people in Edmonton have to endure the longest winters in the league. The weather is finally bearable outside and Edmontonians are going to use every excuse they can to party outside. Let's just hope the Wayne Gretzky statue survives.
