One team may sneakily be waiting to sign Nazem Kadri
July 13th has come and passed, as the free-agency frenzy is in full force, and surprisingly Nazem Kadri is still searching for his next team.
Joe Sakic had to part with Darcy Kuemper, due to his ask being more than he could make the cap work. It seems like this may be the fate of Kadri as well, seeing as the Colorado Avalanche hasn't cleared enough cap to sign him either.
But someone may be in on him:
Kevin Kurz suggests that the New York Islanders may be in on Kadri.
The current cap space, suggests that Lou Lamoriello could wing it, with $11 million to work with currently, so in reality, it could work.
Kadri is coming off a career-best 87-point regular-season performance last season. He played a key role in the Colorado Avalanche's recent Stanley Cup triumph. The 31-year-old center is coming off a six-year contract with a $4.5-million annual average value
Kadri is due a raise and could land a contract worth $6 to 8 million a year AAV and is looking to sign with a contender.
The Islanders are as far from contention as anyone could be after their brief two-year run in the playoffs under Barry Trotz, so it's an interesting idea. That is the unfortunate thing, his preferred destination may not have the space to make it happen.
The Columbus Blue Jackets were also in on Kadri, but after signing Johnny Gaudreau they withdrew the offer.
The clock is ticking and I don't see the Islanders pulling this one off.
