The Ottawa Senators are in a very unique situation. The team has had an incredible offseason and has managed to expedite their rebuild. The additions of Claude Giroux and Alex DeBrincat have shown that ownership is willing to open their wallet and acquire top level talent.

After 5 years of subpar performance it's clear that the time for progress is now in Ottawa. The fan base is already on edge and expects results. Any faltering out of the gate will likely cost DJ Smith his job. The Senators have made it clear that there will be no weak links this season.

That is why last night after their preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens, the Senators announced they had released Michael Dal Colle.

Dal Colle was drafted 5th overall by the New York Islanders in 2014. Dal Colle, who was a point per game player in the OHL never saw his scoring translate to the NHL. In 112 career games with the Islanders Dal Colle only put up 8 goals and 13 assists.

At this point it is highly unlikely Dal Colle will find another NHL deal and he will likely have to examine other options should he consider continuing to play hockey.
