There have been lots of questions surrounding toughness and grit in today's NHL. Some teams have come to the decision to shy away from these sorts of players. Instead choosing to focus on skill and scoring. There has always been a time honoured tradition of grit and toughness being what teams need to win in the playoffs.

This offseason the Edmonton Oilers have deviated from their previous approach. Previously the Oilers kept Zach Kassian on their roster to keep flys off players like Connor McDavid. But this summer to clear cap space the Oilers sent Kassian to the Arizona Coyotes for cap relief.

Paul Bissonnette has taken notice to the Oilers approach and he's definitely not mincing words when discussing how he feels about the Oilers.

They're going to need it because they're softer than puppy shit in a microwave.

The Oilers still have Evander Kane on their roster, but Kane is definitely better suited as a scorer for the Oilers. Losing him for 5 minutes doesn't help the Oilers in the slightest. It will be interesting if the Oilers can return to the conference finals with the reduced toughness in their lineup.
