In July of 2021, when the Philadelphia Flyers acquired Ryan Ellis from the Nashville Predators, they had high hopes for the defenseman. Unfortunately very early in his Flyers career Ellis was injured. Ellis managed only 4 games in 2021/22 for the Flyers.

Now it seems like this injury concerns might go well beyond this season. According to Anthony SanFillipo there is a chance that Ellis career is over.

SanFilippo had this to say on a recent episode of Stick 2 Hockey with Jason Myrtetus:

"100%, he's not playing. I know he's not gonna be ready for the start of the season, don't think he's playing at least through the first half of the year, probably not all year, and could be for his career. That's kind of where was told where it was at."

In the deal for Ellis, the Flyers gave up former 2nd overall pick, Nolan Patrick and Philippe Myers, now with Tampa Bay. So they ultimately didn't lose any tangible assets, but losing Ellis permanently would be a significant blow for the Flyers defense.
