According to the Pittsburgh Penguins front office, Ron Hextall received a trade-offer for Jason Zucker this off-season. It appears that Zucker, having an off-year was one of the contracts Hextall wanted to clear off the books with a $5.5 Million dollar cap hit.

The team was apparently another Metropolitan Division team, unspecified for now.

Hextall would decide against the trade due to the fact the ask, was a bit much for Zucker.

The team in question wanted Zucker, to be packaged with a 1st rounder in exchange for every NHL gm's favorite player: Future considerations.

According to insiders, a cap dump such as Zucker plus a first-rounder is the going, rate as similar packaged deals happened with the Calgary Flames and Sean Monahan and other trading partners informed Philadelphia of the same practice.

Hextall is looking at a dry prospect pool currently in Pittsburgh, so while moving Zucker would be ideal, moving a 1st was out of the question.

Although his offensive output has not been commensurate with his pay Zucker has 23 goals and 24 assists in 94 games since coming over from the Wild he skates well, works hard and is an effective forechecker who is liked and respected by his teammates.

It appears Zucker has a 2nd chance at redemption on the Penguins' second-line thanks to some NHL GM's hubris.
