Player receives 10 minute misconduct for 'chewing on his mouthguard'
Yesterday Team Canada's Zach Dean was assessed a game misconduct for what most people deemed a clean hit. Many felt this would be the worst call of the tournament, but it turns out today referees had something worse in mind.
During today's game between Switzerland and Latvia a referee decided to call an ever worse penalty. Midway through the 2nd period Swiss forward Mischa Ramel was assessed a 10 minute misconduct for delay of game.
Everyone involved in the broadcast seemed confused by the call, that was until there was clarification provided. According to the broadcast the penalty was actually for an equipment violation. The actual reason, Mischa was chewing on his mouthguard.
Apparently there were no warnings given and this penalty was called and took many by surprise.
